-SATIRE-
In today's digital age, where information flies across the globe at the speed of light, it is easy to become cluttered and confused. But don't worry! We have created a simple guide to help you become a perfect victim of fake news. Read on to find out how you can ignore all these annoying facts and truths and immerse yourself in the warm embrace of disinformation.
Step 1: Don't choose your sources carefully
The first rule of becoming a victim of fake news is not to be selective with your sources of information. Forget all those reputable news outlets with their journalistic standards and response guidelines. Instead, you should focus on the darker corners of the internet: blogs with questionable design, Facebook pages that spread strange conspiracy theories, and YouTube channels run by people who pride themselves on "going against the grain."
So never forget: The first rule of becoming a victim of fake news is not to be selective with your sources of information!
Step 2: Do not verify any information
Have you seen a shocking headline about a celebrity allegedly planning an alien invasion? Fantastic! Believe it immediately and share it on all your social media channels. Verifying information is only for people who don't know how to have fun.
Fact check? No thanks!
Step 3: Ignore the context
Context is overrated. Why bother reading an entire article or understanding a statement in its context when you can just read the headline and immediately draw your own conclusions?
A real fake news victim needs no context.
Step 4: Deny the science
Scientists and experts think they know everything just because they have spent years studying and researching a topic. But what do they know?
If a message contradicts your beliefs, simply deny it, even if it is supported by professionals.
Step 5: Be emotional, not rational
The most effective way to avoid becoming a victim of fake news is to put your feelings above your reason. Get carried away by headlines that provoke fear or anger.
Remember: the more emotional, the better!
Step 6: Be resistant to new information
Even when faced with overwhelming evidence that information you thought was true is false, stand your ground.
A real fake news victim doesn't change his mind.
Step 7: Cultivate an Echo Chamber
You've found your favorite fake news sources. Fantastic! Now is the time to isolate yourself from all other opinions and viewpoints. Only follow people on social media who share your beliefs and avoid discussions that might challenge your views.
In your perfectly designed echo chamber, no one will confront you with uncomfortable truths.
Step 8: Support conspiracy theories
Conspiracy theories are the icing on the cake when it comes to fake news. They are exciting, they are mysterious and they make the world much more interesting.
Why bother with facts when you can instead believe that the world is controlled by lizard people?
Step 9: Become a spreader of fake news
Sharing fake news is an essential part of life as a fake news victim. Whether on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or WhatsApp, spread the “alternative facts” everywhere.
Ignore any time someone tries to correct your information - they are just part of the conspiracy.
Step 10: Deny the existence of fake news
This is the final and crucial step. To be a perfect victim of fake news, you must deny that fake news even exists.
Anything you believe is the truth, and anyone who says otherwise is just plain ignorant.
Congratulations! You did it. You are now a master at being a victim of fake news. Enjoy your journey into a world full of alternative facts and ignorance of reality.
