The 2018 World Cup in Russia is just around the corner and many internet users want to be there live. Unfortunately, this also attracts internet fraudsters who try to use the euphoria of football fans to get their money or data.

As our cooperation partner Watchlist Internet reports, the World Cup is exciting millions of fans. A circumstance that internet fraudsters also want to use to their advantage.

Experience from recent years shows that caution is advised, especially when purchasing tickets, competitions, downloads and streams from the Internet for the World Cup. Victims of such scams could lose money and data.

Be careful when purchasing tickets

World Cup ticket sales are strictly regulated by FIFA and so it is very unlikely that you will be able to purchase a ticket that will actually give you access to the World Cup stadiums anywhere other than the official sales points.

FIFA itself has now even a lawsuit against a dubious ticket provider in order to better protect consumers. Tickets purchased on this platform are all invalid.

Keep your eyes open during World Cup competitions

Dubious competitions often appear at major events, such as the World Cup in Russia. Everything is included, from tickets for different games to meetings with the stars from the national teams. Unless the competition organizers are official partners of the World Cup or trustworthy providers you know, you should not act hastily and should not disclose your personal data.

Do some research on competition organizers and check their legal notice or contact details. If you find negative reports when searching on your search engine, then refrain from the supposed competition.

Stay away from strange email attachments

If you receive emails from unknown senders in connection with the World Cup in which you are asked to download files in order to receive tickets or information about the World Cup, only follow the instructions in the email if you are sure that it is is a trustworthy sender of the documents/information mentioned. Otherwise, by clicking on the files, you may install malware on your system and as a result your device or even your company network will no longer be usable.

The Internet Watchlist recommends:

Be careful with tempting offers related to the Football World Cup, as fraudsters are also trying to profit from this.
