Warning of an email with the subject: “Sepa direct debit mandate for Intrum Deutschland GmbH”
A new email scam is currently circulating and targets unwary recipients. The email claims to come from Klarna Bank AB and Intrum Deutschland GmbH to settle an outstanding claim of €72,031.84 The email is written in error-free German and comes from different sender email addresses and appears shockingly authentic at first glance.
However, this is an attempted fraud and the letter does not come from Klarna Bank AB or Intrum Deutschland GmbH. The fraudsters are probably trying to get personal and payment information from the recipients or to get them to pay the alleged outstanding amount. It is impossible to say who the account number belongs to.
This is email spoofing: Email spoofing is a tactic in which fraudsters spoof the sender address of an email to make it appear to be a legitimate email from you or a trusted organization. The goal is to trick recipients into clicking on malicious links or revealing personal information.
Note: Intrum Deutschland GmbH is a company that specializes in credit management and debt collection services. It is part of the Intrum Group, a leading European provider of credit management services and offers services such as receivables management, debt collection, risk management and payment processing.
The email is currently addressed to a large number of recipients and always has different file numbers. In this case the file number is 32734393.
The letter states that there is an unpaid invoice and asks the recipient to pay the amount by online payment or bank transfer by May 5th. The recipient is also asked to click on a link in the email to receive their own individual ATID number.

Warning! Do not reply to this email or click on any links or attachments in the message. Instead, you should block the sender and delete the email.
If you click on the link “Click here to save your case documents and get your individual ATID number.”, you will land on a website with the domain: “intrum-krediteneintreib.com”. This does NOT to the actual Intrum Germany company GmbH.
A Whois query showed that this domain was registered on April 3, 2023 from Lithuania. No more information is available because no personal data about the domain owner has been published since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force in 2018.

If you have any doubts about the authenticity of an email that purports to come from Klarna Bank AB or Intrum Deutschland GmbH, we recommend contacting the company directly and clarifying the matter. Do not provide any personal information or payment details unless you are sure the request is legitimate.
At the moment, the puzzling thing about the situation for us is the requested amount of 72,031.84 euros and the due date May 5, 2023. This amount and the date were identical in all of the emails we received. This sum alone should make you as a recipient suspicious. If the required amount were lower, many users could become careless and transfer a few euros without thinking. In this case, however, we think it is very unlikely that anyone will fall for it.
We have informed “Intrum Deutschland GmbH” about these emails and forwarded them! Unfortunately, we had not received a response by the time this article was published.
