Fraudsters have also long since discovered the almost unregulated online financial market and are trying to cash in. Unfortunately, this recently worked again for a man from the Paderborn district.
Invested in cryptocurrency, then got scammed
The 35-year-old had invested a low five-figure sum in cryptocurrencies via the web.baokaicrypto.online platform. The scammers' usual scam then started. The man was asked by email to first pay a profit tax in order to be able to pay off his investment and the promised profit. In this case, the profit tax was 25 percent of the investment. The 35-year-old transferred the sum, but the payment was still blocked. It was only when he received further payment requests so that he could cash out “his winnings” that the man became suspicious and filed a criminal complaint with the police. The money invested is probably gone.
The police advise
The police advise extreme caution when trading online and especially when investing in cryptocurrencies. Anyone who uses online trading should always be suspicious when unusually high profits are promised with little investment. Especially with cryptocurrencies, high profit margins but also corresponding losses within a few hours are the order of the day. It needs to be carefully considered whether this form of investment is the right one. Before transferring money to a trading platform, investors should obtain comprehensive information about the platform. You should not allow yourself to be put under pressure by the professional appearance of the platform or by promises and messages from alleged brokers just because an alleged profit could otherwise fall through. Likewise, no sensitive data or access data to bank accounts and depots should be disclosed.
