Users of the older model iPhone 5 should hurry up: there is only time for an update until November 2nd!
As of just before 12:00 a.m. UTC on November 3, 2019*, iPhone 5 requires an iOS update for accurate GPS tracking and continued use of features based on the correct date and time, including the App Store, iCloud, Email and web browsing, according to Apple Support .
Check the iOS version of the device
After updating your iPhone 5 , you can check if the update was successful:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap “General” and then “About.”
- Check the number next to “Software Version.”
The updated software version number should be 10.3.4.

Also update other, older Apple products!
In general, iPhone and iPad models from 2012 and older keep their iOS up to date, as various problems can also occur on other models from that time. According to Apple Support, the reason for this is a rollover problem with the GPS time, which has been affecting GPS-enabled products from other manufacturers since April 6, 2019.
Here is an overview of older devices and the current iOS version
| Updated iOS version | Device |
| iOS 10.3.4 | iPhone 5 iPad (4th generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular |
| iOS 9.3.6 | iPhone 4s iPad mini (1st generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular (CDMA models only) iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular |
