For some time now, sharepics about Joschka Fischer have been appearing again and again with alleged quotes from the German politician. These are the following versions, which are mainly shared on Facebook:

The fact check

It is not the first time that alleged quotes from Joschka Fischer have circulated on Facebook. ( we reported ) We have already covered two of the above statements in a fact check in 2019. You can find this one here .

But let's take a closer look at the statements:

As the colleagues at Correctiv write, the quotes are mostly wrong. Only one actually comes from the former Foreign Minister of Germany, one is incorrect and one of them is undocumented.

“The world would simply have to kill German heroes like rabid dogs.

The quote is correct. According to Correctiv, this quote comes from an issue of Frankfurt magazine Pavement Beach from 1982. The statement can be found in Duisburg archive for alternative literature in the 133rd Pavement Beach Edition being found.

The title of the article is “A German on a major military mission – an anti-polemic about Karl Heinz Borher”. Fischer wrote in the context of his statement that no other people in Europe had waged a racist war of extermination on this continent in modern times [...] and had not committed such crimes as the German people in the years between 1933 and 1945.

“Germany must be contained from the outside and heterogenized, so to speak diluted, from the inside through influx.”

The quote does not come from Joschka Fischer. The statement comes from author Mariam Lau and is part of a review of Fischer's book "Risk Germany", which was published in the World from February 7, 2005 had appeared.

It represents their own interpretation of what Fischer wrote in his book.

“Germany is a problem because Germans are more hardworking, more disciplined and more talented than the rest of Europe (and the world) […]”

The quote is unsubstantiated. The complete passage is as follows: “Germany is a problem because Germans are more hardworking, more disciplined and more talented than the rest of Europe (and the world). This will always lead to 'imbalances'. But this can be counteracted by diverting as much money as possible out of Germany. It doesn't matter what it is for, it can also be radically wasted - the main thing is that the Germans don't have it. The world is already saved.”

There is no clear evidence as to where the statement actually came from. This means you can only find posts from internet users who quote them. The sources differ from each other.

The traces of the research lead to indications that the quote could come from the USA and that Fischer said the sentence in the USA in 2008. Here, too, there are only contributions from users. (see here and here )
