On May 27, 2023, a new page appeared on Facebook posing as the well-known company “Kärcher”. Since then, she has been luring unsuspecting users into a trap with an alleged competition.

“We have 170 Kärcher products that we have to remove due to minor scratches…”

The page's status post promises generous gifts: “We have 170 Kärcher products that we cannot sell due to minor scratches. Since they are still in good condition, we decided to give them away to everyone who liked, shared and commented 'Done' on the post. Do it now because time is limited, good luck.”

There is a trap behind the competition

At first glance you might think that this is a harmless competition. Winning a few Kärcher products, even if they have a few scratches, sounds tempting. But don't be fooled. Kärcher's Facebook page is anything but real and the competition is a perfidious trap.

Recognize fraudulent sites

An indication of the inauthenticity of the site is the lack of a contact option and an imprint - both of which are required by law for commercial social media sites. This should be a warning sign for every user. In addition, the blue tick that Facebook usually assigns to such pages is missing.

User data as loot

The intentions behind the supposed competition are by no means harmless, but rather highly fraudulent. The aim of the fraudsters is to collect personal data from users who fall into their trap by participating in the supposed competition.

Always check whether tempting offers on the Internet are legitimate before disclosing personal information. The fake Kärcher website is another sad example of how sophisticated fraudsters are on the Internet.
