Facebook doesn't have it easy: users are running away in droves because the news feed only seems to consist of fakes and spam. But you can do a lot about it yourself, you just have to know how!
Many users currently see the above popup when they log in. The wording there says:
“ Facebook should be fun
Hello [name], we are working to improve the quality of the news and information we show on Facebook. We take active action against misleading and untrue reports. This way you will see less spam in your news feed in the future.
Your Facebook support team”
That sounds great, but there is a catch: If you click or tap on “More information,” you will be taken to a page that is only available in English, Bahasa and Portuguese. Many users who don't speak one of these languages will give up here.
That's why we offer you the entire page here in German, including the links that lead to further tips in German. So that your timeline becomes more pleasant again.
What can I do to see more content that interests me?
We care about your Facebook experience and want to make sure you only see the things that interest you. Here we'll show you how you can better control your news feed.
Fighting the spread of fake news
We know you don't want to see fake news on Facebook, we don't want that either. If you feel like you're still seeing too much fake news, there are a few things you can do:
- Learn to recognize fake news . When you know what to look for, you'll know whether you really want to read and spread a message.
- Mark article as fake . Here we will show you how you can mark news as hoaxes.
- Unfollow people or pages . When you unfollow pages or people, you will no longer see their news in your News Feed.
More ways to customize your news feed
We want to show you the news that interests you most, but sometimes we get it wrong. Here we'll show you how you can customize your news feed to only see the news that really interests you.
- Change your News Feed settings . These settings help you control the content of your news feed.
- Hide a story in your News Feed . You can hide individual posts or messages from specific people, pages, or groups in your feed.
- Report content . If you see something on Facebook that you think violates our Community Standards , let us know.
Reduce clickbait and spam in the news feed
Clickbait and spam are often postings or advertising that try to entice you to click with misleading headlines. While we've made some updates to help you see less of it, if you still see something that's spam or clickbait, here's what you can do.
- Identify and avoid spam . Here you can find out how to recognize spam and how to deal with it.
- Report content to us . You can report any form of spam to us, not just things you see in your News Feed.
