The NFL is heading into the offseason, and at the end the Chiefs were the winners of this year's Super Bowl. Even if the name suggests it: The Chiefs' Kansas City is not in Kansas!
The most important things about Trump and Kansas City in brief:
- Chiefs won Super Bowl
- Trump congratulated the people of Kansas
- The city is in Missouri
Be it a lack of geography knowledge or ultimately the seductive lure of the city's name, you don't know. What we do know: Donald Trump embarrassed himself a little after Superbowl LIV.
One might have expected a patriot like Trump to know in which state his cities are located - although this is not always that easy, especially given the size of the USA.

Maybe it was just in the heat of the moment that Trump congratulated the residents of the wrong state on winning the coveted trophy. One does not know.
It's Missouri you stone cold idiot. pic.twitter.com/O1cAAOFsJ6

Former US Senator Claire McCaskill , who comes from Missouri, published this tweet. At least as far as geographical indications are concerned, she is definitely right.
Kansas City is the largest city in the state of Missouri. According to US Census Bureau estimates, Kansas City had a population of approximately 480,000 in 2016. Nevertheless, the much smaller city of Jefferson City is the state capital.

Kansas: The Correction
Granted, Kansas City is right on the border with Kansas. Likewise, as mentioned at the beginning, the name is seductive. Nevertheless, a few people in Trump's orbit may have raised the alarm because of his tweet.
And there is a city that is also called Kansas City and is actually in the western part of Kansas ( compare ). However, that is not the city where the team is based, the stadium itself is in Missouri.
We won't find out whether it was them or whether he himself noticed the mistake in the end. However, Trump deleted his original tweet and corrected the error. Now he no longer congratulates the residents of Kansas, but the people of Missouri.
Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on a great game and a fantastic comeback under immense pressure. We are proud of you and the Great State of Missouri. You are true champions!
