Nationwide Reading Day 2018 – Raise awareness of digital dangers with the children’s book “Kasper, Sky and the Green Bear”. Actor Thomas Arnold reads the Kaspersky children's book in the video-audio cast!

Traditionally on the third Friday of November - this year November 16th. – the nationwide reading day [1] takes place. The ideal date to present the children's book 'Kasper, Sky and the Green Bear' [2], recently published by our cooperation partner Kaspersky Lab, to a wide audience.

Promote media literacy in children!

The aim of the book, to promote media literacy in children between the ages of six and nine and to make them aware of the dangers of the World Wide Web, fits perfectly into the concept of the day of action. The point is to get young people excited about reading and reading aloud and to bring them into contact with the written word as early as possible.

With this non-commercial book, which addresses such a serious and important topic in a loving and age-appropriate way, Kaspersky Lab aims to bridge the gap between the real, haptic and the intangible, digital world for children.

Although this year's reading day has the motto “Nature and the Environment”, even the youngest children often move around in virtual space almost effortlessly - usually without having been properly sensitized to possible digital threats and trained accordingly.

Thomas Arnold decided to lend his voice to the book out of conviction:

“As an actor, you often deal with socially relevant topics and I now include safety on the internet for children as one of them. I like the story with Kasper, Sky and the Green Bear because it is not riddled with prohibitions, it simply offers support, relies on real friendship and gives courage.”

“The cyber threats are becoming increasingly numerous and incomprehensible for children - be it cyberbullying, sexual harassment, online fraud or malware attacks,” says Milos Hrncar, General Manager for the DACH region at Kaspersky Lab., at Kaspersky Lab.

“With this book, created in cooperation with the Dutch children's book author Marlies Slegers [4], we would like to help accompany children on their first steps on the Internet in an age-appropriate and expert manner. The aim is to teach them how to use the internet safely in an entertaining way as part of an exciting story and to give parents a child-friendly basis for discussion on the topics of online dangers and correct behavior on the web.”

IT security: An important and serious topic – told in a child-friendly and exciting way

In order to get children interested in a topic as relevant as digital security, it is important not to point the finger. That's why "Kasper, Sky and the Green Bear" is consistently exciting, age-appropriate and told with a positive mood:

Grandpa gives nine-year-old Kasper a green bear: Kuma. But why does Kuma sometimes turn red when Kasper is online and playing Sky games on the Internet with his girlfriend? The exciting story behind this question takes children on a journey into the digital world, warns of dangers and gives behavioral tips for a safe and good online experience.
