Unfortunately, not only fake representatives, police officers and firemen go door to door, but now apparently also fake youth welfare office employees.

This is what happened in Gelsenkirchen, although we have to say that so far it is only an isolated case and it is still unclear whether these false youth welfare office employees were only targeting this one child or whether there was organized crime behind it.

In such cases, however, it is good to issue a general warning, as long as it does not come from someone you know and is distributed via chain letter, but rather, as in this case, the city of Gelsenkirchen itself warns against it:

Attention: Fake youth welfare office employees on the move

There are indications that people in #Gelsenkirchen are pretending to be employees of the youth welfare office and ringing doorbells. In one case, the surrender of a child is said to have been demanded. The people were unable to show an ID card. But this is absolutely necessary.

If you have any information, please call the following number: 169-9300 – or after hours the police emergency number 110!

The city of Gelsenkirchen also warns about the wrong employees on its website

As “ WAZ ” reports, the city does not want to provide any further details about the incident, which is understandable given the ongoing investigation. A similar incident is said to have occurred in the past six months, but at that time the unknown persons only demanded access to the apartment.

It is unclear whether these were the same people at the time or whether the same family was confronted with the wrong employees.

The “WAZ” also reports that, according to Gelsenkirchen police spokeswoman Merle Mokwa, there are currently no reports, but at least the city will file a criminal complaint against unknown persons.
