Thomas Kemmerich from the FDP was elected Prime Minister in Thuringia on February 5th. After a day he announced that he wanted to resign.
The most important thing about Kemmerich and the salary amounting to 93,005.07 euros in brief:
- Kemmerich announced after a day that he wanted to resign. (However, he remains in office for the time being)
- The figure of 93,005.07 euros as salary is spread
- Editorial Network Germany (RND) explains the number
Apart from the fact that Thomas Kemmerich will remain in office for the time being, he initially announced that he wanted to resign from his post one day after his election after major protests and discussions. Furthermore, during our research it emerged that Kemmerich probably wanted to forego his salary ( here ). In this respect, the invoice made in the article only represents a hypothetical invoice if it had been transferred after one day.

At the same time, a number has come into play, namely the amount of salary Kemmerich will receive for this one day in office, even if he had resigned. The figure of 93,005.07 euros is in the room here.
Just one day in office and then received €93,000? Many people were amazed and expressed their displeasure on social media. But the number is real and anyone else in this position would have received the same salary.

How were the salaries for Kemmerich calculated?
The Editorial Network Germany (RND) has published an article how Kemmerich's salaries are made up. This is not the number that applies to a single day, but rather the number that results from the sequence.

In principle, Kemmerich's one-day term would be counted as a full month of work. This means that he would receive full remuneration for February (basic salary, compensation for service expenses, family allowance) amounting to 17,536.74 euros.
The remaining not quite 76,000 euros for Kemmerich, and here the RND speaks of a minimum payment, come from the entitlement to the transitional allowance to which Kemmerich is entitled. This is explained in the Thuringian Ministerial Act (ThürMinG) :
The transitional allowance is paid for the same number of months for which the beneficiary received official salary as a member of the state government without interruption, but for a minimum of six months and a maximum of one year.
According to the ministerial law, this transitional allowance is staggered; in the first three months there is the official salary and the family allowance in full, and then half of these salaries for the rest of the benefit period.
So if we assume the basic salary (€16,617.74) plus family allowance (€153), then we have a number of 16,770.74. In purely mathematical terms, this results in the subsequent payments: 16,770.74 euros * 3 + (16,770.74 euros / 2) * 3 = 75,468.33 .
These figures, i.e. the receipt from February plus the transitional allowance for at least 6 months, result in the figure of €93,005.07. Kemmerich himself is merely a variable here, because everyone else in this situation would also be entitled to the amount according to the law.
For more detailed information, we refer to the article “At least 93,000 euros: Kemmerich and his salary if he resigns” from the RND .
