These fake sites are operated by unknown persons under the name of KfW and ask customers to provide personal data, possibly with the intention of using this data fraudulently. KfW is one of the leading development banks in the world. On behalf of the federal and state governments, it works to improve economic, social and ecological living conditions worldwide. Among other things, the bank promotes the acquisition or renovation of real estate in Germany and is therefore of interest to the general public.

Phishing emails on the go

In this context, phishing emails are also in circulation that ask recipients to disclose personal data. Those contacted are asked to click on a link in the message. These links lead to fake websites where the data can be accessed. Recipients may not be suspicious because the messages can appear deceptively genuine.

The development bank points out that personal data should only be entered into the portals accessible bank website
