Once again we are receiving inquiries about a page on Facebook called “Ghosts at the Window”! Find it on Facebook:

Since we have already analyzed this topic or this page once, we can say the following:
These are Facebook pages that share pictures of children . Parents and grandparents are always shocked when these sites share their children's pictures on Facebook. They complain, they argue and threaten to file charges, and at the same time they become the victims of ridicule on their respective pages. We therefore always point out these sites and always give the same effective advice on how to remove the image that was involuntarily shared there.
Here too we repeat:
Of course we understand the situation itself; it feels “wrong” when strangers share their own pictures. But if you upload a photo to Facebook and set your privacy to public, then it is completely unproblematic for Facebook pages like “Henriette's Children's Bazaar” or “Little Miss & Mister” to share publicly posted photos there. Also included is the mentioned page “Ghosts at the Window”.
This Facebook page does nothing different than its predecessors: The page owners look for pictures with children as a motif that have the privacy setting “Public” and share them on the page . The picture is then provided with a small saying. According to Facebook guidelines, all of this is completely unproblematic.
Because Facebook says in its own terms and conditions: “You grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sublicensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP license).” In this way, the Facebook user legitimizes that their own content can be shared on Facebook within the framework of the specific privacy settings. So what happens when complete strangers share pictures on a site that they themselves haven't uploaded? Possibly also children's pictures of strangers? No reupload, no changes and no derogatory comments - just sharing?
Even if you are very annoyed as the person affected, the police will not be able to do anything because the site itself - the site operator itself - has not violated any law. Neither copyright nor personal rights are violated by these pages. The method Henriette's Children's Bazaar used is completely legal! Technically and legally speaking, the site operators SHARE children's pictures that were uploaded to Facebook by parents/grandparents etc. and have the status PUBLIC.
Dear parents, YOU can stop this yourself!
If you want such sites to disappear, then turn off the tap by no longer posting children's pictures with the status “public” .
In all cases presented there, it is the parents THEMSELVES who uploaded the photos and chose the “public” status. These sites do nothing other than share images as part of the “share” function on Facebook. The site shows what is possible on Facebook with images that have public status. It is up to you to ensure that these images disappear from the site: change the privacy setting! The moment you change the status from “Public” to “Friends”, the sharing is over :
Topic children's pictures on Facebook
Of course, it is up to all parents to post pictures of their children on Facebook, but for heaven's sake please pay attention to the privacy settings. This is how Facebook informs about the “public” setting:
Information you share publicly: If you share information “ Publicly ” (e.g. if you select “ Public ” in the audience selector), it is considered public information. If you share something and don't see audience selection or other privacy settings, that information is also public.
As well as:
People who aren't logged in to Facebook can still see things you've shared with public audiences, as well as your public information (such as your name, profile picture, cover photo, gender, and networks).
So, dear parents, it's up to you how to distribute pictures of your children on Facebook! Understand what's happening on Facebook, understand how the privacy settings work. YOU have it in your hands.
