The attacks in Ukraine continue because, according to Moscow, the Russian Air Force has destroyed a missile arsenal in the Ivano-Frankivsk region in its war against Ukraine with the hypersonic missile “Kinshal” (Dagger). The Ukrainian Air Force's underground ammunition depot in Delyatyn in southwestern Ukraine was destroyed by the ballistic missile on Friday. Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konoshenkov said this on Saturday.

Two military reconnaissance bases were destroyed in the Odessa area on the Black Sea. The information could not be verified. It is the first time since the beginning of the war that Russia has reported the use of its new air-to-surface ballistic missile “Kinschal”. It was the first ever combat use, they said. So far, the weapons have mainly been used in maneuvers - most recently a few days before the invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24th.

Hypersonic missiles exceed the speed of sound. Traveling at 6,000 km/h!

The “Kinshal” missiles are fired by MiG-31 fighter aircraft. According to Russian information, they can hit targets up to 2,000 kilometers away - bypassing all air defense systems. Hypersonic missiles exceed the speed of sound several times and fly at more than 6,000 kilometers per hour

The Defense Ministry in Moscow posted a video of the operation on Twitter, which is said to show the destruction of the weapons depot.

Russia also justifies its war in Ukraine with the aim of demilitarizing the neighboring country, which is equipped by the West. On Saturday night, 69 military objects, including four Ukrainian command bases, were destroyed, Konashenkov said. The head of the Russian parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin, called on the USA and NATO countries to stop arming Ukraine “if they want peace as soon as possible”.

Meanwhile, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko called on Western allies to deliver more weapons. “Please support us,” said the former professional boxer in an interview with the Italian daily newspaper “ Corriere della Sera ”. The European allies and NATO are required to send the necessary weapons to defend the airspace over Kiev. “We have the ability to close our airspace ourselves,” the 50-year-old continued. “But we definitely have to get the right weapons.”

According to Klitschko, Kiev has now recorded more than 200 civilian deaths.

Around two million residents remained in the city. “Don’t forget that we are defending our country, but at the same time we are defending the fundamental values of European democracy,” emphasized Klitschko. “My message is clear: please stop any economic relationship with Russia because Putin is using every euro to strengthen his military, which is marching towards us,” he demanded.

According to an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the fighting continues unabated. However, nothing has changed in the general situation in the past 24 hours, explained Olexii Arestowytsch in a video speech that was distributed online. Mariupol, Mykolaiv, Kherson and Izjum are particularly hotly contested. According to the city government, nine people died in shelling on Friday in the suburbs of the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia. 17 others were injured, said Deputy Mayor Anatolii Kurtiev.

The Ukrainian government says it hopes to be able to set up ten escape corridors on Saturday to bring civilians out of embattled cities. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk. Among them is said to be one from the embattled port city of Mariupol.

The American Russia expert C. Ehrlich writes on Twitter about the use of the Kinschal:

“The goal is to threaten other opponents by demonstrating a system.”

According to Clint Ehrlich, Putin is threatening the West with the new weapons system: “The message to NATO could not be clearer: If you intervene in the conflict, I will use this system against you.”
