Not a day goes by that there isn't a lot of hustle and bustle on Facebook.

A photo showing a Mercedes has been floating around on Facebook for days. The words: “Today in front of the Landauer Tafel. Running!"

The power of images!

An ongoing phenomenon on the internet. A picture only ever shows a snapshot that can be interpreted in many directions without any background knowledge. And that’s what happened with this photo too. The comments are full of hate and hate.

“With the Benz to the table. Not bad either. The German taxpayer will of course also pay for this.”

One user recognized it correctly and commented:

Honestly, what exactly can you see in this picture?
A Mercedes, a woman with a headscarf at the door of this Mercedes, other women, some with headscarves, in front of the door of a building. Everything else is interpretation. Is that really the blackboard in the building? Does the woman with the blue headscarf go in there? Do the other women at the door have anything to do with the Mercedes???

And that's the case!

The Landauer Tafel published the following message :

False report on Facebook about the Landauer Tafel

A photo of the Landauer Tafel has been circulating on Facebook since yesterday. In the following comments, foreign citizens are accused of using the Tafel's help without justification.

This statement is wrong!

The car pictured is used to pick up a (German) pensioner who can no longer drive to the food bank alone.
Helpful neighbors then drive them to the distribution point in their cars. This also includes this Muslim family who does not receive any food from us. The photo led to a hate campaign against foreigners and insinuated that we, as food bank employees, were handing out food to everyone who came to us without being checked.

In order to receive food from a food bank, everyone must prove that they are in need at least once a year - regardless of their nationality. In our ABC board you can read under N-proof which documents we need.
Please stop spreading this false report and help us take active action against such slander.

Hunger knows no nationality - with us everyone gets help, no matter where they come from.

Furthermore, the following was commented on by the Landauer-Tafel on its own page as a comment on the clarification:

The picture is not a fake, it was taken in front of our issuing office on March 8th, 2018. However, that is the only correct thing about Mr. Kurz's portrayal. The Muslim woman pictured and attacked by him and many others in the comments is not one of our visitors. She just picks up a German pensioner with walking difficulties. She can no longer visit the food bank alone and is driven there alternately by helpful neighbors.

So it was exactly the other way around: it wasn't the foreigners taking something away from the Germans, but rather they were giving them something - attention to the poorest and help. Actually something completely self-evident, but for which an entire population group is now once again being insulted.

I know that many of our visitors come with cars, mostly older cars. But the cars are not an indication that these people are not in need of help. They often come from the surrounding area and need the cars in order to have any chance on the job market. I also know that some refugees are “driven up” in newer, larger vehicles. If you take the trouble to look at the drivers of the vehicles, you will see (German) private individuals who look after these refugees.

Visitors who come to us and receive food must demonstrate their need at least once a year.
You can find out which documents we use on our website under Table ABC “N- Proof of Need”. It is unfortunate that the hunt for the plaques has now arrived in Landau thanks to one person. We as the board vehemently distance ourselves from such c.

With us, everyone who needs help will continue to receive it - regardless of their nationality.

I ask you to pass this correction on to your circle of friends. I didn't post a picture on Facebook. I assume that very few people read this. However, I reported the post to Facebook as a hoax and asked Mr. Kurz to delete the post and all comments.

I ask you to continue to support the work of the Tafel Arbeit and, above all, not to respond to completely out-of-the-air contributions by attacking an entire population group.
If you have any further questions, I would be happy to answer them.

I'll get in touch with Google again, thanks for this tip
