“Last Generation”: Fake leaflet

Fact check reveals the truth behind the “10 Commandments” and the real demands of “Last Generation” climate activists.

Author: Claudia Spiess

Is it information or just manipulation? There is tons of information circulating on the internet and social media every day. But what happens when false information is spread and even the names of innocent third parties are misused? Here is a case from the climate activists “Last Generation”.

“Last Generation” – False Accusations

The nationwide debate about the blockade actions of the climate group “Last Generation” has taken a new turn. In a leaflet shared on social media, the group's alleged "10 Commandments" are presented in a "catalog of demands" that they want to implement from 2024 - from banning certain sporting events to restrictions on energy-intensive industries.

A ban on motorsport, sports and music events is therefore called for, as are issues such as the cessation of all construction work or restrictions on air travel.

The truth behind the leaflet

It quickly became clear that this leaflet was not authentic. The “Last Generation” itself has denied any connection to this document:

“The leaflet is a fake and does not come from the Last Generation and is in no way based on the demands of the Last Generation,” the climate activists told the DPA .

It is also interesting that the authors' information was mixed up. While the “Last Generation” is cited as the author and their logo adorns the letterhead, the imprint contains the name of a blogger who sharply criticizes the actions of the “Last Generation” in his blog.

That blogger denied any responsibility and filed a criminal complaint.

“We have now been able to identify the author of this false report and have taken legal action against him with the help of our legal counsel and the police authorities.

Information for users of social media: “Anyone who shares this false report or spreads it in any other way is also guilty of the offenses already mentioned above. We will report any distribution!”

The real demands

Instead of relying on speculation, those interested should consult the actual demands of the “Last Generation” directly from their website. These include, for example, demands such as a speed limit of 100 km/h on motorways and a permanent 9 euro ticket. They also advocate that the federal government establish a social council to plan the phase-out of fossil fuels by 2030.

Controversial actions

Since 2022, the “Last Generation” has been committed to climate protection with various campaigns. They are not only the focus of the media, but also of law enforcement authorities. Around 2,000 cases have already been initiated, ranging from damage to property to acts of resistance. But they are not immune to attacks either. Over 100 investigations have been launched into attacks on its members.

Conclusion

In our fast-paced digital society, fact-checking and questioning sources are essential. Another example of how easily inaccurate or even false information can be spread is the fake “Last Generation” leaflet. We are required to act responsibly and search for the truth.
