Daycare center in Amöneburg-Mardorf foregoes Mother's and Father's Day gifts - Diocese of Fulda gives in. The Catholic daycare center St. Hubertus in Amöneburg-Mardorf (Marburg-Biedenkopf district) is currently causing a stir on social media when it announced in letters to parents that the children at the facility would no longer be making gifts for Mother's and Father's Day.
The letter to parents from the Catholic daycare center St. Hubertus

The team management justified this decision by saying that in today's world they want to exemplify diversity and not exclude anyone. The daycare center therefore wants to avoid stereotypical gifts such as “ flowers for the mother or tools for the father ”.
The daycare center emphasized that the traditional mother-father-child constellation was no longer the norm and that a Father's Day gift without a father in the family could not only be worthless, but could even be damaging to a child's identity. This announcement raised doubts about the daycare's family image on social media.
After the letter caused irritation, the diocese of Fulda, to which the Catholic daycare center belongs, has now backtracked. Diocesan spokesman Matthias Reger told Bild that the letter was worded ambiguously and regretted the irritation and misunderstandings it caused. The daycare center will continue to have a Catholic profile and will promote the Christian image of the family without excluding other life models and realities.
Reger announced that the daycare center would seek contact with the parents to clear up any misunderstandings. This is intended to make it clear that the letter is not directed against the Christian view of the family, but rather merely represents an adaptation to the changing family structures of today.
There were a variety of reactions on social media after the incident became known. Numerous users sharply criticized the actions of the St. Hubertus daycare center and accused it of undermining the traditional family image and the values associated with it with this decision. Some expressed incomprehension that a Catholic institution would take such a step and feared a further erosion of the Christian family image.
On the other hand, there were also users who supported and welcomed the daycare center's actions. They argued that the decision contributes to recognizing and respecting different family structures and life models. These users emphasized that it is important to give children from non-traditional backgrounds a sense of belonging and acceptance by avoiding stereotypical gifts such as flowers for the mother or tools for the father.
