Or maybe a joke? Can you really buy “grass” at Lidl now? Completely legal?

We received inquiries about an article claiming that discount retailer Lidl sells cannabis. At least the title gives the impression that Lidl is mutating into a coffee shop based on the Dutch model:

No joke: Lidl now sells cannabis!

So will you be able to legally purchase cannabis at Lidl in the future?

[vc_message message_box_color=”green” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-check”]Yes! At least in SWITZERLAND ![/mk_info]

According to the press release, the whole thing should work like this:

Lidl Switzerland is launching two cannabis products in collaboration with the start-up “The Botanicals” from Thurgau. The hemp flowers are considered a replacement for traditional tobacco products and will be available in Swiss branches from April 19, 2018 at typical Lidl prices.

Lidl Switzerland is expanding its range and is offering two products with cannabidiol (CBD) for the first time. The company “The Botanicals” supplies the Swiss retailer with hemp grown exclusively in Switzerland. The plants are grown in partially automated greenhouses and specially designed indoor facilities. The manufacturer relies on sustainable agriculture and completely refrains from adding any chemical, synthetic or genetically modified substances. To ensure the best possible quality of the plant raw materials, cultivation is carried out in accordance with the GACP guidelines (“Good Agricultural And Collection Practice”) of the European Medicines Agency.

The hemp flowers, which are produced as a tobacco substitute and are designed for rolling yourself, will be available in Lidl from April 19, 2018 in a 1.5 gram box (indoor) for CHF 17.99 and a 3 gram bag (greenhouse) for CHF 19.99 Branches are available in German-speaking Switzerland and French-speaking Switzerland.

Cannabidiol

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is an ingredient in the hemp plant. The legally growable varieties contain only very small amounts of THC and a high proportion of CBD.

Result:

Yes, Lild actually sells two products containing cannabidiol in Switzerland.

The title of the website was perhaps chosen a bit awkwardly as it sounds a bit like clickbait - so users can be forgiven for being taken aback by this news! Although a proper reference to the source would also be very useful...
