A comment from Beate Liedemann from the Mimikama team.
An angel floating from heaven opens the market on November 27th, 2017 at 6:00 p.m., the two Elmshorn Christmas angels switch on the lights as in previous years, a murmur is sure to go through the audience again.
There are rustic wooden stalls decorated with gingerbread, where you can find everything a visitor in the Christmas mood could desire: art and kitsch, mulled wine, sweets, savory foods. All of this is festively framed by elaborately illuminated trees and houses, which have given the festival its name since 2007. This year designed by the Pinneberg artist Gisela Meyer-Hahn. 50 decorated Christmas trees spread a festive atmosphere, the centerpiece of the market is a 12 m high fir tree. Elmshorn Christmas cup and Christmas tree ball were designed especially for the market. Christmas concerts and events will take place in and around the church.
Christmas parade and other highlights
There are even show huts like Santa's parlor and the Polar Hut. There are also carriage rides, a Christmas parade and an appearance by Santa Claus with a photo shoot.
This is almost pre-Christmas overkill and the market has been attracting visitors from far away . Namely since new lighting for the city center and for the Christmas market was initiated city marketing Since its attraction since then has been the elaborate illumination, it was in 2007 .
Photo shoot 2011
In 2011, the city initiated a photo shoot in which 40 Elmshorn children took part. The girl pictured on the poster won the competition and has since adorned the poster inviting people to the light market.

Not a serious request!
My suggestion to all the people out there who don't like this beautiful market and this magical child:
Please first make sure that the Dresden Striezelmarkt , the Bautzener Wenzlsmarkt , the Hildburghausen mulled wine market , the Nuremberg Christkindles and Munich Christkindlmarkt and the Haller Nikolausmarkt are quickly renamed the Christmas market.
It's probably not possible that our good old tradition of the Christmas market is being trampled on here and has been for decades and centuries (the previous two sentences are of course ironic, sad that this has to be emphasized these days)! Or no, I'd rather not, because I, like most other people in Germany, appreciate this diversity and enjoy it. Speaking of diversity: Two of the oldest and most popular Christmas markets in Germany, with centuries-old traditions, are the Dresden Striezelmarkt and the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. And yes: these are really Christmas markets, even without Christmas in the name. That works! And it's a good old custom!
Simplicity instead of diversity, that seems to be the motto of many concerned people. Whether it's St. Martin's Day or Christmas, the linguistic diversity in Germany seems to scare some people. That's a shame, because it's the local differences that make our beautiful country and its diverse traditions so attractive.
At the core, only the Christmas message itself should be important and not everything around it, which everyone can design according to their own taste.

The more “evidence” is cited that Christian traditions and Christmas should be renamed or even abolished, the more bizarre it becomes.
