Love scam successful: A previously unknown perpetrator contacted a 59-year-old woman from Ingelheim via Instagram. He introduced himself as a Frenchman and claimed to have developed feelings for the woman.

About the heart to the account

Over a long period of time, he repeatedly wrote to her, wrote nice messages and thus built a romantic and emotional relationship with her. After a while, he asked the 59-year-old for money because he was in Morocco on business and could not access his financial resources. Over a period of two months, the 59-year-old made several transfers totaling EUR 11,700. After the stranger demanded more and more money, the 59-year-old became suspicious and contacted the police.

Urgent police warning

The police warn urgently against such fraudsters. They deliberately play with the feelings of their victims, involve them in a kind of relationship and, after a while, make them believe that they are in dire personal situations from which they can only be saved if a certain amount of money is given. With sent messages, calls and sometimes even video calls, they make the other person believe that everything is real. It is not so. The fraudsters only want one thing – their victims’ savings.

What to do?

Stay alert and never transfer money. Inform the police.
