Love scamming: The scammers look for victims on online dating sites or social networks such as Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook and scour the member lists there. A short online invitation to chat serves as an initial contact for many people. In order to make themselves interesting to potential victims, romance scammers create unusual life stories - and they initially leave a serious impression.
Love Scamming: This is what happened to a 37-year-old woman from Troisdorf
She met a man on a dating platform. After they had written to each other more often and the fraudster had gained her trust, he made the victim believe that she had money problems. In the period from June 2022 to November 2022, the injured party transferred a total of 28,000 euros until she realized that she had fallen for a scam. She was supposed to transfer the payments to a French bank account because the man's account was allegedly blocked.
In general, you should not transfer money or accept other demands from people you have never met or seen in person. There are a lot of scammers on the Internet in particular who want to make a lot of money off of the good faith of their fellow human beings. So always be suspicious of incredible offers, whether when looking for an apartment or a partner.
