The claim

Lula's missing finger is said to have "grown back". It is said to be a fake Lula wearing a mask with the likeness of the Brazilian president.

Our conclusion

No, Lula da Silva is not a masked man. And no, the little finger on his left hand hasn't grown back either.

There are actually people who are spreading a photo collage on the Internet with which they want to prove that Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is not really behind the re-elected President of Brazil.

Instead, it should be a person who wears a mask and is therefore perceived as Lula. But the alleged masquerade is said to have been exposed by one detail: the mask wearer isn't missing a finger! - Seriously?

Oops, Lula suddenly has all her fingers again?

Sure, things can't be right there. Clever foxes have uncovered something “really big”.

“Lula is resurrected. Another masked actor, now it's all hands on again. So many that we see at the moment […]” is written in a Telegram channel. Above the text you can see a picture of Lula da Silva. To the right is a collage of three photos showing a man pulling a face mask made of latex or a similarly stretchy material from his head.

Drum roll for this sensational discovery, please! (Warning, sarcasm!)

Photo has been manipulated

Such a surprise too. The photo used in this collage was taken by photographer Ricardo Stuckert. The President of Brazil also shared it on November 8th, indicating the author.

And lo and behold: the finger is missing.

On October 31st, the photographer himself posted a photo of Lula's hand on the Brazilian flag. Here too: Not a little finger to be seen.

His account contains countless photos and videos in which you can clearly see that neither a miracle has happened here nor that someone else appears to be embodying the Brazilian statesman, who, however, has all ten fingers on his hands.

The loss of the finger

In a Facebook post there is another photo of the president in which he stretches his left hand towards the camera. Here too it is clearly visible: the little finger is missing.

It is also mentioned here that he lost his little finger.

“Lula lost a finger, not on a jet ski, but in a machine, as a metalworker, in one of several industrial accidents that occur every day, usually a product of worker overwork. […]“

A BBC article also tells how this happened:
“He trained as a metalworker and found work in an industrial town near Sao Paulo, where he lost the little finger of his left hand in an accident in the 1960s Hand lost.”

Conclusion

Yes, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is missing a finger: the little finger on his left hand.

It didn’t “grow back”. There is also no evidence that anyone else took on his role by putting on a face mask. And we couldn't tell from the Telegram post why he should have been “resurrected”. We are now waiting to see whether there will be an inquiry about the alleged death of the president soon.

Therefore - almost boring: this is simply a manipulated photo.
