Companies beware: Fraudsters send emails with alleged invoices in .zip file format. The executable files included must not be opened under any circumstances, as they will infect your device or the company network with malware.
At the moment, a lot of invoices are being sent to companies from Paymorrow Gbr and Volkswagen VTI GmbH - both supposedly German companies. Here is an example of a message from Paymorrow Gbr:

The file attachments in .zip format can be opened with packing programs. This makes the content visible. Among other things, these are .exe files – i.e. executable programs. It's malware. The files must not be executed under any circumstances, otherwise the computer or the company network will be infected and considerable damage can occur.

How do you recognize a fake invoice?
There are no business relationships between your company and Volkswagen VTI GmbH or Paymorrow Gbr. In addition, it is unusual for you to be written to in English, as is the case with Volkswagen VTI GmbH. Sending invoices in .zip format does not inspire trust either. This approach is often only chosen so that malware can be sent undetected.
How can you protect your business?
Inform your employees about the danger of counterfeit invoices and email attachments with criminal intent. This allows them to better identify possible threats and exercise more caution when opening file attachments. Always keep your operating system and installed software up to date. This closes known security gaps and makes you less likely to fall victim to malware. Save your data carefully and create backups. It can also be helpful if your employees do not have administrator accounts and therefore installations cannot be carried out without prior approval from the administrators.
