This article is not for the faint of heart - five people actually ate Mao Sugiyama's genitals
We received inquiries from users who were shocked by an article published on May 25, 2018.
It's about the Japanese Mao Sugiyama, who is said to have served his own genitals at a banquet. A topic that is highly polarizing and could, for better or worse, make sensitive people gag.

Mao Sugiyama is an artist living in Tokyo, Japan. On March 31, 2012, he had his nipples, penis and testicles surgically removed - but not for medical reasons. He was very unhappy in his body and went on hormone therapy for two years. He begged the doctors for an operation until one finally agreed. He had the organs handed over to him and froze them.
On April 8th he tweeted:
Offering my male genitals for a meal for 100,000 yen, I will prepare them as the buyer wishes.
A businesswoman from Tokyo quickly got in touch and organized an event.
On May 13, 2012, he thawed them again and served them dressed as a chef in a rented basement room. As an art event with a closed party, around 70 guests were present, five of whom had each paid 20,000 yen (approx. 160 euros [with the current change of course; previously approx. 200 euros]) to have the organs garnished with mushrooms, parsley, marjoram, Consume basil and rosemary.
Sounds absurd and made up?
[vc_message message_box_color=”green” icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-check”]But it’s not. This story is true. It's not a fake ![/mk_info]
However, this story didn't just happen last week. Sugiyama had already said goodbye to his male sexual organs in this way 2012
The fact check
In an interview with Der Spiegel , Sugiyama explained that he doesn't regret a second. It was right for him because he never wanted to be a man, but neither did he want to be a woman. He is interested in beauty, but not in sex. He is happy to be asexual now.
He originally planned to eat his own genitals to celebrate the departure of his masculinity, but he needed the money and wanted to raise more awareness for sexual minorities.
According to Die Welt , the Tokyo city government filed a criminal complaint against him, although Sugiyama said he had taken into account all regulations on banned organ trade, the handling of hospital waste and food safety.
It is not known what consequences he had to endure, but a prison sentence of two years and a fine of around 32,000 yen (approx. 250 euros [at the current change of course]) would have been possible.
Result:
Yes, Japanese artist Mao Sugiyama actually served his genitals. Five people consumed the organs. But this already happened in 2012.
Criminal charges were filed for causing public nuisance and violating food law regulations. It is not known whether Sugiyama received a prison sentence or had to pay a fine.
