With this scam, thieves stick a deceptively real fastener over the cash dispenser slot.

The Osnabrück police warn of manipulated ATMs in Osnabrück and Bramsche.

In several cases, so-called “cash trapping”, a special form of theft from ATMs, has been reported.

A deceptively real closure is stuck over the cash dispenser slot. This closure has an adhesive film on the inside that prevents the money from being dispensed or withdrawn from the machine - the banknotes literally remain stuck in the dispensing slot.

In order not to fall for the thieves, the following should be taken into account:

  • In any case, stick to the ATM
  • Don't let a supposedly helpful stranger lure you away from the machine
  • Ask another customer to get a bank employee
  • For ATMs outside of banks, if necessary, call the bank using your cell phone
  • Contact the police outside the opening hours of banks and credit institutions
