Caution! An article from the Rheinneckarblog speaks of a massive terrorist attack in Mannheim.
The article itself speaks of a large number of dead and injured people, supposedly the largest terrorist attack to date in Western Europe. Over 30 attackers attacked the city area, panic broke out and a news blackout was imposed.
Denying statements from the police are cited in the article as a deliberate concealment of the attack, thereby legitimizing the content itself and also embedding it in a classic conspiracy situation.
The blog's server is also currently posing a current problem: Due to the high volume of access, it is overloaded and there is no chance of being able to read a solution to the topic. So initially all that remains in your head is the teaser of the article, which speaks of an attack.
The Mannheim police have published on both Twitter and Facebook that this article “Massive terrorist attack in Mannheim” is a fabricated text. The situation described is not real.
Why all this?
The media company “Heilbronner Stimme” writes that this article is intended to be a form of media criticism:
A recent Facebook post by the Rheinneckarblog operator on Sunday night gives an idea of what the background for the made-up report could be. It's about the demonstrations in Kandel, where rights against refugees have been taking to the streets for months - only again on Saturday. The Rheinneckarblog operator complains about the alleged “lying press”.
The resolution to this story can be read in another article on the site, which says: “We published fake news – for reasons of thinking instead of “liking” . The Rheinneckarblog writes on Facebook:
(hp) For all small minds, once again in plain language: We have not published any “fake news”, but rather a fictional story in the Gonzo style .
Clearly recognizable to anyone with sense and understanding. The core of the story is relevant, as we know from past acts of terror - or does anyone want to deny the many deaths and the chaos in Paris, Madrid, Nice, London, Brussels? And yes – we achieved our goal: attention to an extensive and complex topic. No city in Germany would be able to cope with a coordinated terrorist attack. All German security authorities together were not even able to stop or arrest the lone perpetrator Anis Amri. An Italian police officer shot him - accidentally. Not dealing with such a constellation is grossly negligent and inhumane.
Everyone take a breath and think.
Divided reactions and dangers
Users and the police are divided about this publication. The reactions to this in the comments are rather negative and the tone is rather cold. According to the operator, the blog article also has access from abroad. There is a risk here that the intention of the article will not be understood and the statement will therefore be viewed as true.
There is at least a risk that this entire story, including the built-in conspiracy situation, will become a media boomerang.
According to the blog operator, the police were informed in advance by the Rheinneckarblog.
