The perpetrators pretended that they could not pick up the offered item themselves. A courier from DPD or Aramex Express (the shipping company may vary) would collect the item. This person would hand over the purchase price in an envelope and in return take over the goods for transport.

In further communication, the fraudsters claim to include a fee for shipping insurance in this envelope in addition to the purchase price. For this reason, the seller should pay this overpayment in advance to the supposed shipping company using the Transcash top-up code. In addition, the potential victims of this scam receive an email that appears to come from this shipping company. Among other things, the fraudsters used the email: dpdservicesdestinataires@gmail.com .
Warning about fraud on “Facebook Marketplace”
Please be suspicious if you are asked to pay in advance for online transactions. Please be particularly skeptical about unusual payment proposals. When selling goods, never pay in advance and only hand over the goods after the full purchase price has been paid. Please file a criminal complaint if you are or have already been harmed by this scam.
