This morning a man injured a woman and a child with a knife in the area of ​​the Jungfernstieg subway station.

According to current findings, the ex-husband attacked the wife and their child with a knife. The child died due to the injuries sustained. The mother was seriously injured. The perpetrator was arrested.

The homicide squad (LKA 41) and the Hamburg public prosecutor's office will take over the further investigation and are currently on the way to the crime scene.

The suspect is a 33-year-old from Niger. The man called 911 himself after the crime. He was temporarily arrested by the alerted forces of Police Department 14 on the Jungsfernstieg in front of a financial institution.

The victim was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. There she died from her injuries.

The murder weapon was found and seized on the perpetrator's escape route, in a trash can at Jungfernstieg train station. Contrary to initial findings, the suspect was not encountered by police officers on Jungfernstieg but on Mönckebergstrasse and was temporarily arrested.

After police measures have been completed, the suspect will be transferred to the pre-trial detention center and brought before a judge on April 13, 2018.
