Two 23-year-olds are suspected of having stolen several thousand euros as members of a messenger fraud gang.
Messenger fraud: The scam
During the course of intensive investigations, the two 23-year-old Germans came into the focus of investigators. They are said to have alternately made contact with people via messenger services or personally and recruited them as so-called account providers. The subsequent fraud victims then transferred funds to their accounts, which were allegedly withdrawn and forwarded primarily in cash to the suspects.
Based on these findings, the responsible public prosecutor's office obtained search warrants for four objects, which were executed this morning by specialists from the specialist commissioner for trick fraud offenses (LKA 431) together with officers from the responsible police commissionerate. The officers seized several electronic devices.
The two suspects remained at large after police measures were completed. The investigation is ongoing.
The police warn
The police warn: Beware of quick, easy money! Such account providers must expect criminal charges on suspicion of money laundering, even though they themselves have become victims.
In addition, the police advise caution and healthy suspicion when calling from unknown numbers, especially when urgently needed money is involved.
