On Tuesday, February 25th, sweets that may contain metal shavings were distributed as part of the Laubach-Freienseen carnival parade.

After small packets of fruit gum that were apparently contaminated with metal shavings were distributed during a carnival parade in Laubach - Freienseen on Tuesday, the police were able to determine the origin of the packets.

On Tuesday evening, several people reported to the police in Grünberg and said that they had taken small white packages of fruit gums with them during the carnival parade in Laubach - Freienseen. There were a few small metal shavings in these packages. After a warning from the police, several witnesses came forward and brought the apparently contaminated small packages to the police.

Manufacturer identified

During the investigation it turned out that the fruit gums were apparently packaged in a company in the Giessen district. On Wednesday evening, several police officers and employees of the Giessen district veterinary authority visited the company in question. It turned out that the packages were filled and packaged there a few days ago as part of a test run for a new packaging machine.

Several of these packages, which were actually intended for destruction after the test run, were then apparently distributed by a company employee without permission. It is very likely that the packages were also distributed at other parades in the surrounding area of Laubach.

Proceedings initiated

Proceedings were initiated against the suspect on suspicion of violating the Food and Feed Code. The investigation is ongoing.

The fruit gums should under no circumstances be consumed. A picture of such a pack , which was handed in to the police on Tuesday after the move, can be seen in the cover photo above.

The police recommend handing in such packages at the nearest police station.
