On September 5th, Meta launched a new, Europe-wide campaign on the social and economic impact of the Metaverse. The metaverse is intended to change the way people connect with each other, companies grow and creators earn a living.
It is also intended to offer even better social experiences than anything that currently exists on the Internet. Meta's new campaign "The Impact Will Be Real" , launching in Germany and Europe from September 5th, will give people a first glimpse of what these benefits could look like.
For example, we should be able to educate ourselves in the metaverse in 3D - architecture, history or even basic geometry are brought to life in a way that whiteboards and flat screens cannot. The Metaverse also offers endless possibilities for training healthcare professionals - from practicing surgical procedures to first aid training in a virtual, safe environment.

The metaverse could also have real impacts on the digital economy in Europe. A recent white paper prepared by polling firm Analysis Group on behalf of Meta estimates that if the Metaverse develops similarly to mobile technology in Europe, it could contribute $440 billion to regional GDP after a decade.
The metaverse should be ready in about 10 years
While virtual reality already exists and is making a noticeable impact, much of what we envision for the metaverse is still about ten years away. This requires cross-sector collaboration between experts, scientists, civil society, governments and regulatory authorities to take the right steps together. The campaign starting today is intended to help start this exchange early and initiate collaboration between companies, stakeholders and experts in Europe and beyond.
