If you are familiar with the movie Groundhog Day, in which the protagonist relives the same day over and over again, then you have an idea of what it feels like to have worked at Mimikama for 12 years.
And the marmot greets you every day
Since 2011, we have been dedicated to fighting misinformation, fraud and abuse on the internet. With the mission to educate and provide the online community with tools to check the veracity of information on the Internet for themselves, we have answered countless user queries and published around 40,000 articles over the years.
At the same time, it is a journey that feels like it is repeating itself – like the aforementioned film “Groundhog Day”.
The constant flood of inquiries: Over the past few years, we have experienced a constant flood of user inquiries, ranging from everyday concerns to complex fraud scenarios. Often similar or even identical questions and concerns are repeated. Whether it's confirming the authenticity of a viral image, figuring out the origin of a chain message, or uncovering a supposed scam, it seems like we're reliving the same "day" over and over again.
But why is it like that?
The problem of recurring queries and misinformation lies in the nature of the internet itself. Misinformation spreads quickly and widely, often abetted by algorithms that target engagement and viral content. As we work hard to uncover and combat every case of misinformation, new ones are constantly emerging - or old, already debunked stories are resurfacing.
Our way forward
Despite the feeling of being caught in an endless loop, we remain true to our core concern: We will continue to fight misinformation, educate and give the internet community the tools to navigate the digital space safely.
We recognize that the work we do is not easy
It requires constant vigilance to keep up with the ever-changing tactics of scammers and the flood of misinformation. But it is also work that deeply fulfills us. Because every user we can help, every fraud we uncover, every misinformation we refute, makes the Internet a safer place.
In conclusion: We at Mimikama do not feel discouraged, despite the challenges we face every day. On the contrary, we are ready to give groundhog greetings for another 12 years or more and do our part for a safer and more informed online community. Because at the end of the day, every day we fight fraud and debunk misinformation is a day that counts.
We are extremely grateful for your support and trust on this journey . We look forward to many more years of educating people and fighting internet abuse. Because like in the movie, we will continue to wake up and face this day again and again, no matter how many times it greets us.
