Mozzarella: A tweet claims Trump addressed Italian President Mattarella as “mozzarella.”

Trump can be trusted to do a lot, but did he really say mozzarella? A tweet published on October 17, 2019 shows the interpreter during Trump's speech. The tweet claims about her facial expression:

The look of the White House Italian translator as Trump says President Mozzarella for the Italian President and says US and Italy have been allies since Ancient Rome. Hot fucking damn

(The look of the Italian White House translator as Trump refers to the Italian president as President Mozzarella and also says that the US and Italy have been allies since ancient Rome. Hot fucking damn.)

Our Italian colleagues from OPEN carried out the fact check and came to the following conclusion:

Not just a mozzarella, but a buffalo mozzarella!

Bufale is the Italian term for fake or hoax. OPEN describes that several newspapers were involved in this fact check, including the French newspaper Liberation. The result: President Donald Trump never referred to Mattarella as mozzarella, let alone said that the United States and Italy have centuries-old alliances.

OPEN refers to the official video for the broadcast. This video can be seen on YouTube, it was published by an official YouTube channel of the Fox television channel.

Exciting: Here you can see that the translator has a concentrated look throughout. So it's less of an astonished look because of its content, but rather her serious look is due to her concentrated work.

No cheese

No, Trump doesn’t call Sergio Mattarella “mozzarella.” Nor does he speak of connections between the United States and the ancient Romans. A context was misinterpreted here. OPEN talks about how the whole sentence referring to the Roman Empire has a different meaning. What is meant is “The United States and Italy are linked by a shared cultural and political heritage that stretches back thousands of years.”
