WhatsApp says privacy is at the heart of every new feature it develops for the popular communications platform. This is due to end-to-end encryption, which ensures calls and messages remain secure at all times. Meta emphasizes that new precautions are constantly being worked on to further optimize user data protection.

Recent privacy improvements include Chat Lock, which allows sensitive chats to be password protected, self-deleting messages, one-time screenshot lock, and the ability to keep online presence private.

New functions: Mute calls from unknown people and data protection check

WhatsApp recently introduced two new functions that are now available to all users: “Mute calls from unknown people” and “Privacy check”.

The new Mute Calls from Unknown feature gives users more privacy and control over their incoming calls. It allows users to better protect themselves from spam, fraud and calls from unknown people by automatically filtering out such calls. These calls appear in the user's call list, but the phone does not ring.

Additionally, the app introduces the new “Privacy Check” to ensure all users are aware of the security options. This feature walks users step-by-step through key privacy settings and helps them choose the right level of protection - all in one place.

By selecting “Start Check” in the privacy settings, users will be guided through a series of privacy measures that increase the security of their messages, calls and personal information.
