Involuntary in the spotlight
Internet Nightmare: You're well-known, a face people trust, and then you wake up one morning and see yourself in an article that's not only false, but also potentially harmful to your fans. For Armin Assinger, this nightmare became reality. False reports about the end of his career and a fabricated interview about a shady investment spread like wildfire through the internet.

What is behind the fake advertisements?
Such Internet fakes are no longer uncommon. They shamelessly exploit the trust that fans place in their idols. The strategy is simple: create a convincing lie, spread it on social platforms like Facebook, and then lure unsuspecting users to a website to scam them out of money.
The promised investment “Altrix Edge”, which according to the made-up article promises profits of between 950 and 2,200 euros per day, is just one example of many. Once transferred, the user's money is gone.
Assinger's reaction to the false reports on the Internet
It was Sandra Assinger who first became aware of the fake news. “Fake news is currently being spread about my husband Armin via Insta and other media,” she complained as the couple recovered in San Antonio. The frustration was palpable. But that's not all: the two announced legal action to defend themselves against the slander.

The Watchlist Internet, an organization that advocates for more security on the Internet, has already warned against such scams and advises victims who have already lost money to go to the police immediately.
Why is this scam so successful?
Unfortunately, the power of social media and people's trust in familiar faces often makes such scams successful. Many people are unaware that not everything they read online is true. Especially when they seem to come from a familiar person – like a celebrity.
It is therefore all the more important to remain vigilant and to question information critically. A healthy distrust of anything that sounds too good to be true can protect you from many traps on the Internet.
Conclusion: The truth often lies in the details
Armin Assinger's experience with internet fakes shows us once again how careful we have to be with the information we find online. It's easy to be fooled by compelling stories and familiar faces. But at a time when fakes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, it is up to us to remain vigilant and check the facts before acting or sharing. It's not just our money that's at stake, but also our trust in the digital world.
