From the department: “Science at the district political level”.
Now we have found the culprits for this summer's drought and heat: they are the wind turbines that were built all over Germany. Germans, don't blow on wind turbines!
Wind turbines, or in expert circles also known as “giant fans”, blew the jet stream away. The jet stream, that global current wind at a height of 10km, driven by huge convergence currents and the Corriolis force, with speeds over 300km/h is influenced by wind turbines (quote from the comments). Aha.
This is what it claims on the AfD Worms Facebook page:
Gavin Schmidt is quoted, at least a single sentence from him. Completely taken out of context, completely without attribution.
The interesting thing about this sentence is that something crucial is missing, because Schmidt said more. In Focus you will find out the further part:
“When we withdraw energy from an active system – i.e. non-fossil energy – we influence the energy flows in the system, and the more we intervene, the more strongly,” he says. “But energy remains renewable, and we are still a long way from the point where energy extraction impacts climate change.”
Aha – method! Constructing content by omission in such a way that it says the opposite.
Of all people, Schmidt!
Citing Schmidt of all people in this context is of course a fail in itself. Because Schmidt is clearly convinced that greenhouse effects, which also arise from the combustion of fossil fuels, are to blame for climate change. On NASA's blog , he expresses in an interview that he hopes people would reduce the amount of fossil fuels without ruining the economy or destroying society before it is too late.
I asked Schmidt what people's behavior would look like “if they understood that burning fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide, which causes global warming.” He replied, “People would start focusing on policies and processes that would reduce the amount of fossil fuels without ruining the economy or wrecking society.” Then he added, “I think, I hope! “That people will get it before it’s too late.”
satire or politics
In some cases it is really difficult to distinguish between satire and politics. In this case we are having a very difficult time.
