Be careful: Fraudsters are currently sending emails in the name of Netflix and are targeting your login details.

Netflix phishing – the most important thing to start with:

  1. An email claims to be from Netflix.
  2. Apparently there were problems with the payment. In order to be able to use the account again, the recipient should log in to the Netflix account using a link.
  3. This is a phishing attempt. The website is fake!

Anyone who currently receives an email from Netflix in English should be careful. With the subject “Please update your payment details,” fraudsters try to get Netflix account login details.

The whole message is as follows:

Your account is on hold.
Please update your payment details
Hi Customer,
We're having some trouble with your current billing information. Would you like to retry running your card again?

The scammers claim that the account is currently unusable due to payment problems. In order to continue using their account, the user should either repeat the payment or select a new payment method.

So we try to repeat the payment and end up on a fake page in Netflix's corporate design. You can recognize it by the strange URL that has nothing to do with the original Netflix website. In order to identify ourselves as human beings, we need to tick another box. The login mask for the supposed Netflix account then appears.

However, anyone who enters their data here will experience a bitter disappointment: the login does not work. But the fraudsters are now in possession of the data. But that's enough and you can now offer it on the Darknet as “Netflix for free”.

I have entered my details – what can I do?

Change your password as soon as possible! If this no longer works, contact Amazon customer service. Once you have entered your bank or credit card details, keep an eye on your bank statements and it is best to contact your bank or credit card company and have your account or credit card blocked.

How do I recognize a fake email?

  • Most of the time you will not be contacted personally. Scammers use phrases like “Dear Customer” or no salutation at all.
  • The pretext is unrealistic and the email is full of grammatical and spelling errors.
  • The return address is not the service address of the named company.
  • The login page link does not match the link of the correct page.
  • The links to data protection, general terms and conditions, legal notice, etc. do not work.
  • As a general rule, Amazon does not ask you to disclose personal information via email.

Tip: Do not follow any links offered, but access the page manually in the browser. Ask Amazon directly for the email to confirm it.
