With one of the last updates, the corresponding measure was implemented as part of the new GDPR
As the appfahrer reports, this is now done by flipping a simple switch - there is no direct age check.
Last month it was decided that the minimum age for WhatsApp would be raised to 16 years . The reason for this is the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force on May 25th.
New users who had registered with WhatsApp in the last few days already received the new terms of use and had to agree to them. Old customers who already have the app will gradually also receive it and will have to confirm their age.
This age verification looks like this:
There is no “real” age verification. The user only needs to confirm that they are at least 16 years old and agree to the new terms of use. The user is given a certain time frame to make a decision.
Even if WhatsApp has secured itself through this “verification”, young people under the age of 16 can still use the messenger comfortably.
appfahrer assumes that there will be no consequences for this deliberately made false statement.
