Nationwide police search portal launched.

Minister Herbert Reul presented the North Rhine-Westphalia police's new nationwide internet search portal at the Düsseldorf State Criminal Police Office. Every user can now access photos, videos and audio files of suspects, missing persons, dead people and objects relevant to the crime at the address www.polizei.nrw/fahndungen.

By setting up the central search portal, Minister Reul is implementing another agreement in the coalition agreement. “We used to hang wanted posters on lampposts, but today we hang them online,” said the minister. However, the principle of public searches has not changed.

Reul: “The police rely on the help of the public, even in the online age. The more people keep their eyes open, the greater the chance of solving unsolved cases and catching fugitive perpetrators.”

Around 170 searches have already been posted on the new portal - and the number is increasing every day. The aim is to bring together all public searches from the country's 47 district police authorities on the website. On the site, cases can be filtered by location, time or category. If visitors notice something, they can pass on their information to the investigating police station around the clock.
