Some people here can still learn from Nintendo's customer service in Japan! A 95-year-old actually received a replacement for her broken Game Boy Classic.

Nintendo's customer service replaces Game Boy for 95-year-old gamer

A 95-year-old Japanese woman's console broke.
After a letter, she received a working replacement from customer service.

According to media reports, a few years ago the customer service of the Japanese video game manufacturer Nintendo lived up to its reputation: after a 95-year-old avid Game Boy player broke the original device, the customer service replaced the console, even though it had been out of production for a long time.

The story appeared in the Asahi Shimbun and also gained virality on Twitter when one of the woman's grandson recalled it in mid-February this year:

Fans of the classic 1st generation Game Boy know the problem. Because if you want to buy a Game Boy Classic these days, you have to go to appropriate websites, online auctions or a well-stocked retro store. The story of a 95-year-old lady from Chiba, Japan, who has an unbridled passion for Tetris is all the more beautiful. She prefers to play it on the classic version.

After her third Game Boy gave up the ghost, it was far from over for her. She turned to her seventy-year-old daughter to find a replacement for her beloved console. Unfortunately, she couldn't find a repair option or a seller. She then asked her own son for help, who immediately recommended Nintendo's excellent customer service.

So she sent a self-written letter on behalf of her mother, including the damaged device, directly to the company. Nintendo initially tried to repair the device, but unfortunately some spare parts were missing, so this was not possible. So the employees tried their luck in the warehouse and lo and behold - they found a functional Game Boy, which was sent back to the lady along with a wish for a long life.

to Kotaku , the “gaming grandma” lived to be 99 years old and maintained a lively spirit until her death. Maybe playing Tetris had even helped her keep her sanity well into old age? What do you think?
