Caution! Again there is click bait that is distributed via WhatsApp.
This notice claims that the drugstore chain dm is giving out free vouchers due to its 100th anniversary. The message appears as if it was written by the WahtsApp contact themselves, but it is a message that was generated automatically. The sender may have already received such a message and accepted the promise.
Here you can read:
Wow, dm is celebrating its 100th anniversary and giving away free vouchers and gifts. I just received mine; get yours before the offer expires.
Fact check:
100 years DM? This is already bullshit. The chain was founded in 1973 and therefore cannot celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2018. Whoever wrote this text is happily lying to themselves. From this you can immediately see that DM has absolutely nothing to do with this WhatsApp message, as well as the linked website.
Check 1: The web address : As is often the case with this type of click bait, someone has desperately tried to create a web address that sounds similar to the official address of the dm website. Comparisons:
Official address: www.dm.de
Replicated address: www.dm-de. net
Here too, as with similar voucher promises, the attempt to cheat a “de” into the address area (it is NOT the country code) is rather dubious.
Only relevant to smartphone users
Anyone who opens this link on their smartphone will be directed to a website that acts as a kind of quiz. This website presents itself as the homepage of dm, the logo and the typical dm corporate design are used. However, the answers in this quiz are completely irrelevant for the rest of the course. It doesn't matter which answers you choose, a winning confirmation always appears at the end. This promise of profit forms the bridge to the actual goal.
By the way, this is a very typical process that has already been used with a large number of other decoy promises. However, before you go any further, you must first “SHARE” the POST for “virality purposes”.
You will then be directed to an affiliate advertising program.
Stupid linking on desktop computers
The structure of this clickbait appears quite unstructured if you open the address with a desktop device. You end up on a website that claims to be a “gift center” and asks a few nonsensical questions that have absolutely nothing to do with the previous dm voucher.
Things get nasty after the last question: Here you are randomly linked to affiliate programs. Interestingly, you are not asked to share the content, but rather you are bluntly directed to obscure websites. Be careful here!
Why is there clickbait?
Click bait often appears in the form of fake competitions. These are constructed to lead to an advertising program or to display advertising. Advertising links are installed credibly and effectively using click bait. The author of the fake competition simply doesn't care whether their own content is correct. By the way, the affiliate competition built into the end is not illegal. However, it has nothing to do with the previous bait.
