The claim

A Facebook post claims that Ukrainian refugees would receive a welcome allowance of 7,000 euros, which would be at the expense of taxpayers.

Our conclusion

This claim is false. Since June 1, 2022, Ukrainian refugees have been able to receive basic security benefits. Since the beginning of 2023, they have been entitled to citizen's benefit. There is no “welcome money”.

On Facebook, a user complains about special payments, known as “welcome money,” for refugees from Ukraine. He gives free rein to his anger and lack of understanding in his post:

“Audi Q8 / 50 TDl engine….
From Ukraine !!!! Just saw it in wsw. And these parasites are taking my money!!!
License plate BI Poltava Oblast, located approximately in the middle of Ukraine.
Not affected by war at all, but receive plenty of subsidies, special payments plus citizens' money, all from German taxpayers!! And we are told: “we” are living in a crisis.
I can’t eat as much as I could puke!!!!”

The post has been changed several times. In an earlier version, there is even talk of 7,000 euros: “Not affected by the war at all, but we collect 7,000 euros in welcome money plus citizens’ money (per person!!!).”

No source is cited for the claim. Ah, yes! There is a reference to the source, but “due to data protection, it cannot be disclosed”.

To quickly anticipate: Refugees in Germany do not receive any “welcome money”, but rather benefits as part of basic security. All regions of Ukraine are affected by the war, including Poltava Oblast (Poltawskie Oblast).

No “welcome money” in Germany

Already in January and February there were rumors of an alleged welcome bonus for Ukrainian refugees. Here, however, Caritas should act as the paying body. That was wrong. We reported HERE and HERE .

Now it is a question of such a “welcome money” being made available by the government. But that is also wrong. Refugees from Ukraine are not entitled to such a benefit in Germany. A spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior also confirmed this when asked by the German Press Agency (dpa): “The federal government does not pay any welcome money to refugees from Ukraine; There are no corresponding plans either.”

According to the federal government , Ukrainian refugees have been able to receive basic security benefits since June 1, 2022. Accordingly, they have been entitled to citizen's benefit since the beginning of 2023. As the mdr explains in a fact check , Ukrainian refugees have similar claims to German citizens.

Individual regional cases of welcome money

For example, in Holzkirchen (Bavaria) there was a call for donations ( “Holzkirchen helps” ) in which financial start-up aid was collected for Ukrainians who were accommodated in Bad Wiessee. The money comes from the citizens of the Miesbach district. This campaign was launched precisely for the reason that there is no state “welcome money”.

In Borna, , financial support was paid out to refugees from a donation pot.

In Holzkirchen the amounts were 150 euros per person, in Borna 100 euros for adults and 50 euros for children. Both actions were not supported by the state.

No war in Poltava Oblast?

There are no regions in Ukraine that are not affected by war.
The war here is not only taking place in the occupied territories. “There is a risk of unexploded ammunition everywhere in the country, as well as sea mines in coastal areas,” writes the Foreign Office .

For Poltava Oblast, the monitoring site alerts.in.ua has recorded more than 1,000 air alerts since the start of the invasion war in February 2022.

Conclusion

Vaccine worm: WRONG

The claim that Ukrainian refugees receive welcome money in Germany is false.

The term itself appears in several Bundestag minutes , but is always in a different context and has nothing to do with financial support for refugees.

Just as this false report circulated in 2015 ( HERE ), such claims are currently not the truth. Since June 1, 2022, Ukrainian refugees have been able to receive basic security benefits. Since the beginning of 2023, they have been entitled to citizen's benefit.
