What should I do if criminals gain access to my account?
We keep reporting on nasty scams in which private profiles/accounts are cracked by cybercriminals.
Recently, a number of Facebook users lost their accounts because they were victims of a scam. We reported about it here .
The Federal Office for Information Security has published an emergency plan for all social networks, which we can pass on here!
First measures
If you suspect someone has logged into your account:
- you should change the password immediately.
- If you are no longer able to log in,
- Use the “forgot password” function. The operator of the social network will then send you an email that allows you to reset your password and thus be able to take over your account again.
- If this method does not work, please contact the platform operator's customer support immediately.

Report cyber stalkers
Bullying refers to defamation, insults and humiliation on the Internet. Cyberstalkers are people who contact you unsolicited and persistently via social networks. You can usually contact the operator of the respective social network directly. They can investigate the matter and, if necessary, delete the dubious profile. In the case of particularly serious incidents, you should also inform the police so that criminal prosecution can take place.
Youth protection
Many operators have appointed a youth protection officer as the contact person for violations. Content that is harmful to minors can be reported using a form at Jugendschutz.net
