With this joint day of action, the security authorities are taking action against 35 suspects who are suspected of having exchanged photo and video files with child pornography content via a messenger service.

Child pornography in normal messengers

“The fact that images of abuse are also shared via ordinary messenger services shows the extent of the problem of child pornography on the Internet. (…) We will therefore continue our consistent persecution strategy unabated, with days of action like today’s and many other measures.”

Markus Hartmann, head of ZAC NRW.

The NRW State Criminal Police Office and the police authorities of Bochum, Bonn, Borken, Wesel, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, Herford, Hochsauerlandkreis, Kleve, Cologne, Lippe, Lüdenscheid, Mönchengladbach, Oberbergischer Kreis, Oberhausen, Rhein-Erft-Kreis, Rhein-Kreis Neuss, Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, Warendorf, Wesel and Wuppertal.

The fight against child pornography is a long-distance race

The measures make it clear that the distribution of images of acts of sexual abuse will be systematically pursued.

“The fight against child pornography is a long-distance race in which we will not let up. These proceedings also clearly show how important identifying data about perpetrators on the Internet is for the police.”

Ingo Wünsch, Director of the State Criminal Police Office of North Rhine-Westphalia.
