First, customers should contact the airline's customer service to find out what their replacement flight policy is. If they are unable to offer an alternative flight, you may choose to travel by means of transport of your choice and the airline will be responsible for this. You may even be able to claim additional compensation and easily earn a few hundred euros. So if you are affected by a flight cancellation , don't despair. Chances are good that you will be fairly compensated for your inconvenience.

What does the airline have to do after the outage becomes known?

It is the airline's responsibility to provide food and water following a flight delay. They must provide passengers with meals, water and, if necessary, access to telephone calls, toilets and medical care. The airline is responsible for providing food and water to all passengers if the flight is delayed for more than 2 hours. If a cancellation results in passengers being stranded at the airport, this also applies.

The airline must also ensure that passengers can contact their family or friends if necessary by providing access to telephones or other communication devices. In addition, the service is also responsible for ensuring that the toilets on board can be used if they are not available at the airport, especially if there are already passengers on board. If medical help is needed, that should also be arranged.

What other rights do I have?

The European Air Passenger Regulation is a regulation of the European Union. Introduced in 2004, it stipulates that passengers are entitled to a refund if their flights are delayed or canceled. Even if boarding is denied due to overbooking, passengers are entitled to a refund. The regulation also states that passengers are entitled to compensation to compensate for the inconvenience caused. This applies to all flight delays and cancellations as well as other situations such as denied boarding or missed connections. The only decisive factor is that the delay is more than three hours and it is a flight with origin or destination within the EU. The amount of compensation depends only on two factors: the number of passengers and the route of the flight.

How do you apply for compensation?

With the name of your airline, the date of the delay/cancellation and the flight number, you can easily use a debt collection provider to check whether the effort is worth it. Anyone who then decides to have the money collected by such a service does not have to be afraid of a cost trap, as debt collection only costs fees if the claim is successful.

How to calculate possible compensation?

The duration of the delay must be over three hours for the policy to apply. If this is the case, passengers will receive compensation of 250 euros. If the travel distance is more than 1,500 km, the compensation increases to 400 euros, and from 3,500 km even to 600 euros. Anyone who knows how comprehensive an airline's obligations are after a failure can therefore face this obstacle with a little more calm.
