There are requests that we find it difficult to write anything about. This is usually because the content is somewhat self-explanatory or the answer runs the risk of becoming a comment or a column. As with the question on the topic “Özil, Gündogan and Erdogan”.
This is about a meeting between Turkish President Erdogan and the players Özil and Gündogan, both of whom are in the German national team squad. This meeting took place on Sunday, May 13, 2018 in London at the Four Seasons hotel. The official account of Erdogan's AKP party published a few photos of this meeting on Twitter:
Cumhurbaşkanımız Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, çeşitli temaslarda bulunmak üzere gittiği İngiltere'nin başkenti Londra'da Premier Lig'de oynayan Türk futbolcu Cenk Tosun, Türk asıllı futbolcu Mesut Özil ve Türk futbolcu İlkay Gündoğan'ı kabul etti. pic.twitter.com/X3ZY8wwCsa

According to media reports, Gündogan and Özil handed over signed jerseys from their clubs (Arsenal FC and Manchester City respectively) during a photo session. Gündogan also wrote the dedication “With great respect for my president.” on the jersey.
In fact, everything has been said at this point from our side, but this is exactly where the discussion in the media and social media begins, but politicians are also getting in touch.
(Politician) social media voices (uncommented)
“The Federal President of a @DFB_Team player is called Steinmeier, the Chancellor is Merkel and the parliament is called the Bundestag.

#Özil and #Gündogan have no place in the German #national team ( @DFB_Team ). Anyone who denies our country and promotes a dictator, war criminal and mass murderer ( #Erdogan ) should not be allowed to play football in Germany. @DFB @DFB_President #DFB

#Özil and #Gündogan 's advisors actually do for a living? #Erdogan

To the two German football players #Özil & #Gündogan :
Dear Mesut, dear Ilkay, you have to decide - the president is called Steinmeier and sits in Berlin!
If #Erdogan is your president, why do you play football for our country? #AfD pic.twitter.com/SreqdSXcnf— Sebastian Münzenmaier, MdB (@S_Muenzenmaier) May 14, 2018
Players on the German national team should be aware that they serve as role models and stand for fair play, not just on the pitch. The lack of distance towards a foreign president is simply inappropriate. #Özil #DFB #Gündogan #Turkey pic.twitter.com/gAB7aWKUkR

Anyone who wears the national team jersey should commit to the values of our country and not campaign for despots who restrict press freedom and human rights. #Özil #Erdogan pic.twitter.com/W6EReX4rpi

The entire federal government has been kissing Erdogan's ass for years, but if #Özil does that, he should of course be deported. Even though he is a German citizen. In the spirit of freedom of expression, of course.

The German national soccer player Gündogan has responded to criticism of a photo with Turkish President #Erdogan with a written statement in which he denied any political intention. #Özil pic.twitter.com/lsdtivJQxJ
