The claim
A video from a retirement home shows a nurse slapping and kicking a senior citizen. The nurse and her colleagues are having fun. Since the brutal nurse in the video does not speak German, it is claimed that she is a migrant and is mistreating seniors in a German nursing home.
Our conclusion
The video is unfortunately true and shocking reality. But it was not created in a German nursing home and the nurse is not a migrant living in Germany. The horrific scenes took place in a nursing home in Kosovo. Three of the nurses involved have already been detained by the police. The investigation has begun - the presumption of innocence applies.
Kosovo actress Kaltrinë Zeneli posts a video on Facebook , calling on politicians and the media to act. In the video, which has been seen and shared thousands of times, a geriatric nurse can be seen repeatedly hitting and kicking an old, defenseless woman. In the background, other colleagues are laughing and filming the event. The video rightly caused a huge wave of outrage.
The brutal video was taken in Kosovo
This video was taken in the Orenda senior citizens' residence in Peje, Kosovo on November 2, 2022. It is more than shocking and is rightly making waves. Prime Minister Albin Kurti made a statement about this and said, according to aktuell.de : “What we saw in the video is terrible. Old people are our most loved group of people. They have contributed so much to our society.”
In addition, many regional and international media reported on the brutal incident. The violent geriatric nurse in the video and her two colleagues have already been arrested by the police. Videos of this are also circulating on various platforms. The police have started an investigation - the presumption of innocence applies. The fact that the two other colleagues in the background were also arrested is because they did not report the case to the police.
Who is the senior?
The senior citizen has been in the retirement home in Peja for about a year and is suffering from Alzheimer's, writes watson.ch . She is said to have fought for independence in Kosovo in the 1990s and her son is said to have died in the Kosovo War. The family paid between 600 and 800 euros every month for the woman's care. This would be equivalent to around three months' wages in Kosovo. The senior citizen is currently no longer living in the retirement home in question, but has been picked up by her family.
No, the brutal nurse is not a migrant working in Germany!
In Germany, the video is understandably shared and distributed widely, but often without the associated context. In comments it says “These are our foreign specialists, they can get started.” (sic!)

The video is used to incite violence against migrants. Migrants would therefore come to Germany and beat and mistreat old people in German nursing homes. Something that doesn't correspond to reality. Some profiles repeatedly explain in the comments that this tragedy happened in Kosovo and not in Germany. Nevertheless, xenophobic comments still occur.
Conclusion
The video is unfortunately true and shocking reality. But it was not created in a German nursing home, and the nurse is not a migrant living in Germany.
