One in three people have problems with telecommunications providers. The consumer advice centers offer individualized letters as assistance.
Around one in three people say they have had problems with an internet, landline or mobile phone contract within the last three years. The consumer advice centers now offer a free online service with which those affected can demand their rights from companies. The Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection (BMJV) is funding the innovative project.
32 percent of Germans say they have had problems with a telecommunications company within the last three years, according to the results of a representative survey. Around 40 percent of them did not receive the booked service as agreed, and around 30 percent had problems terminating their contract.

There are also other difficulties such as unwanted subscription costs or an incomprehensible or excessively high telephone bill. For all of these issues, the new service allows consumers to create the appropriate letter to the company free of charge based on questions about their case in order to claim their rights.
“Participation in the digital world is essential for consumers. Well-functioning internet and telephone contracts are essential in everyday life. With our online service, we enable consumers to act quickly in the event of problems and to assert their rights against telecommunications companies,” says Michèle Scherer, consultant for the digital world at the Brandenburg Consumer Center.
How to avoid trouble: In addition to offering individualized letters, consumer advice centers have long been offering standardized sample letters for particularly common problem cases. This is the most popular offer on the consumer advice center websites.

The figures mentioned were collected as part of an online population-representative multi-topic survey by the GfK survey institute (GfK eBUS). A total of 1,001 German-speaking people aged 18 to 74 were surveyed in the Federal Republic of Germany between July 10 and 14, 2019.
The offer was created under the leadership of the consumer advice centers of Brandenburg and Lower Saxony as part of the nationwide “Economic Consumer Protection” project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection.
