PayPal logins are popular with fraudsters, which is why there are many phishing emails trying to get hold of customers' data.

The most important thing about PayPal phishing:

  1. A payment to eBay Kleinanzeigen is authorized in an apparent email from PayPal
  2. The link in the email leads to a fake PayPal page
  3. If you enter your data there, fraudsters can use the account for illegal activities

The email claims that a payment to eBay Kleinanzeigen was authorized.
This is what the email looks like:

How to recognize a fake email

  • The sender is not PayPal
  • You will be greeted in the email with your email address, not your name
  • There is no button in any PayPal email to report problems with the payment.

At the third point the email stumbles badly:

“Problems with your payment?
If you do not use these transactional.
let us know immediately”

Of course, the scammers want you to click this button instead of logging in normally via the real site to check the alleged payment, because you won't find the payment there.

When you click the button

At this point, we are by Kaspersky that data may be lost when accessing the link:

Without online protection, you end up on a fake login page, recognizable by the URL (marked in the picture), which doesn't sound like a real payment service at all:

The URL is not from PayPal!

If you enter your data at this point, the site will ask for further details such as name, address and credit card details. This means that the fraudsters at least have full access to the account, as well as the credit card details when entering the other data, and can use it as they wish.

Conclusion

never click on the links contained in suspicious emails If in doubt, it is better to log in directly to the relevant page to check whether an unlawful payment has been made.
